Както вече стана ясно, компанията Leica Camera AG стана партньор на японската компания Panasonic в производството на цифрови фотоапарати. Резултат на това сътрудничество е появата на новите цифрови фотоапарати и видеокамери на Panasonic с обектив Leica.
Leica на свой ред има възможност да пуска на пазара под своята търговска марка практически всички модели на японския производител. Трябва да се признае, че това обаче се касае само за ограничено число продукти от сериите и още по-малко число от моделния ред. Един такъв модел е компактният цифров фотоапарат LEICA D-LUX 4, представен днес, който също така е аналог на Panasonic LX3, появил се месец по-рано.
Както своят “брат близнак” и LEICA D-LUX 4 притежава подобни достойнства, сред които трябва да се отбележи наличието на 1/1.63-инчова 10,1 МП (CCD)-матрица, ярък широкоъгълен обектив LEICA DC VARIO-SUMMICRON, голям 3-инчов екран, както и с възможност за системно разширение и правене на висококачествени HD-видеоснимки.
